On top of the vibram sole are independent ESS plates for cleat retention and proprioception. On top of the felt sole is a die-cut and full coverage plate for maximum rigidity and stud retention. On top of the plates on both boots is a Rivertread platform for slip resistance, comfort and performance. The inside of these boots are fully lined and insulated with 7mm neoprene and grid fleece to offer all day comfort, moisture management and warmth. Excellent fit and comfortable to wear. Must faster than stockingfoot waders to get on and off when moving from stream to stream and don't want wet waders on your truck seat.
I fish over 100 days a year, and have been a Simms fan for many years so I have some credibility in this review. However, these waders are a disappointment. The boots are stiff and uncomfortable where the top hits the shin. The waders themselves are light and flexible, but because the boots are so stiff they create a wear edge at the seam at the top of the boots. They are simply not up to Simms durability standards. On my ninth session of use, they began leaking profusely in the crotch, a common situation in inexpensive waders, but uncommon in a Simms product. Very cool camo pattern and a good fit, but that's about it.
