I needed a wading boot that I could rely on. I live in the north east of the United States and plan to us this boot primarily for fly fishing. However, I also plan to use it for wilderness canoe tripping in northern Maine, NH, Vermont. It has the ankle support I am looking for and seems to have the durability to take some punishment in the backcountry. They are not light, but I wouldn't say they are heavy either. I bought a size larger than my regular street shoe size because I plan to wear them with a neoprene sock most of the time. They fit very comfortably and the grip is fantastic. They feel tight when you put them on but they loosen dramatically once wet (even requiring some retightening). I am treating them with a leather conditioner to keep the leather from cracking or shrinking. I really want to own these boots for years and that is the marketing from Patagonia and Danner. They discontinued these boots recently which makes me a little concerned that the reliability and durability may not live up to the hype (or the price tag). So far I really like them.

They say it's the last boot I'll ever buy since the can be resoled. So far I must admit it's one of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The laces do stretch once wet which makes you have to retighten them after a few minutes in the water.
I have spent two weekends in these boots so far. Fishing on a central Oregon river, wading thigh deep current, with slick boulders and cobble, up and down river bank across basalt ridges. In a south eastern Oregon lake around a steep boulder bank in and out of water. If you could take a Caterpillar and make it ride like a Cadillac I had it on my feet. The only boot I own that compares to this in comfort, versatility and security is my Lowa hiking boots. Awesome boots no doubt. I wear a 9 1/2 D boot bought my river salts in size 10. I wear my normal waders in them with a light wool sock. They feel a little tight when I first pull them on, to the point I think they are going to hurt my feet. No worries lace them down tight for business take a few steps and something changes they become comfortable(very). Hit the water and they become luxurious. I don't know how or why they just do. I can hike as if I were in my hunting boots for miles crazy and am so secure in river amazing. Just gett'm.
